Probe into official's 'migration scam'

Claims an Immigration Department official allegedly ran a migration scam before escaping to India will be investigated, the government says.

Fairfax Media reports the Immigration Department employee and her husband fled Australia three days after their home was raided in 2011.

The couple also allegedly wired $1.2 million to India after their home was raided.

The report says leaked documents show the couple ran a forgery operation, using official departmental stamps, to make fake skilled migration claims.

A spokeswoman for Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said the claims would be added to the urgent report into visa fraud the minister has already requested from the department.

"There are a broad range of additional and serious claims that have been featured in further media reports," she told AAP on Friday.

"The government will work methodically through these claims and establish a process, as necessary, for determining their veracity and what action is necessary to address any substantiated claims."

Allegations about wide-scale visa fraud were reported on Thursday, sparking Mr Morrison's demand for an urgent report from his department.
