Coroner to scrutinise police investigations during Daniel Morcombe murder case

The re-opening of an inquest into the disappearance and murder of Daniel Morcombe will examine the 2011 police investigation into his killer Brett Cowan.
Launched in 2010, the inquest initially explored the adequacy of the police response to the abduction of Daniel Morcombe in 2003.
Daniel’s parents, Bruce and Denise Morcombe, pleaded for a reopening of the inquest.
They hope the inquest, set to resume late this year or early 2017, will allow police to form recommendations for future investigations.
Daniel was aged 13 when he was abducted from a bus stop on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
His remains were uncovered by police in 2011 in the Glass House Mountains, a hinterland town on the Sunshine Coast.
Brett Peter Cowan was found guilty of Daniel’s murder in 2014.
Daniel Morcombe’s death is of the most extensively investigated crimes in Queensland history.
A one-million dollar reward was offered during the time of Daniel’s disappearance.
