Victoria records zero new cases, no deaths for 23rd day in a row

Victoria has recorded zero new cases of coronavirus and no related deaths today, bringing it's COVID-free streak to 23 days.

Official figures released by Victoria's DHHS showed there is just one active case remaining in the state.

Today's figures see the state creep closer towards 28 days of zero community transmission, meaning Victoria will be considered to have effectively eradicated the virus.

It is also the key target listed by the Andrews government for moving to the final stage of restrictions towards 'COVID normal'.

Premier Daniel Andrews is expected to announce the next step in easing restrictions at a press conference later today.

Measures expected to be eased include requirements around the use of masks, limits on indoor and outdoor gatherings and restrictions on hospitality venues, gyms, sports stadiums and churches.
