Zero coronavirus cases and no deaths for third day straight in Victoria

Victoria has recorded no new coronavirus cases and no deaths for the third day running.

The latest promising figures bring the 14-day rolling average down to 1.9, with just one case with an unknown source in Melbourne.

Yesterday Victoria also recorded zero new cases and no lives lost.

One previous case was a false positive and has been removed from the state's tally.

There are just two Victorians in hospital and 49 active cases in the state.

"We are obviously very pleased to see numbers at low levels," Transport Minister Jacinta Allen said.

"These are very much precious gains we want to hold on to. We need to remain vigilant."

Ms Allen said mask-wearing would remain in place for the "foreseeable future" but the health directive may be discussed further on Sunday when restrictions again ease.

"We know that it can slow the spread of the virus," she said.

"At this stage, mask-wearing will be with us for the foreesable future."

Melburnians celebrated their first weekend of freedom after a months-long lockdown was lifted last week.

Parks, pubs and bars were as packed as possible for COVID-safe regulations yesterday, with most just enjoying being out of the house.

Victorians are adapting to watch tomorrow's Melbourne Cup in a different way, with everyone except essential workers banned from the Flemington track.

The weather forecast for race day is 29 degrees, with many expected to listen or stream the big race while picnicking in parks.
