Hotel quarantine to end in Victoria as purpose-built quarantine hub opens
Hotel quarantine will come to an end in Victoria by the end of March as the state's quarantine program is moved to the new Victorian Quarantine Hub.
The first 250 beds at the purpose-built Victorian Quarantine Hub will open later this month to house unvaccinated arrivals and people with COVID-19 who are unable to safely isolate at home.
The state's medi-hotels will also stop running later this month due to the falling number of new COVID-19 cases, the state government has announced.

More than 70,000 Australian residents have stayed in hotel quarantine in Victoria since December 2020.
About 500 staff have been trained in infection prevention and control to work in the new quarantine hub, which is located on Donnybrook Road, Mickleham in Melbourne's north west.
Police Minister Lisa Neville said many of the staff from hotel quarantine would be redeployed to the hub.

"The lessons learned in hotel quarantine won't go to waste. with hundreds of existing staff transitioning over to the hub in coming weeks," she said.
Capacity at the hub is expected to expand beyond the initial 250 beds by the end of April.
