'Leave my family out of it'

Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews has asked for his family to be left out of any debate around lockdown policy after a "low" act.

Mr Andrews was speaking today following a "give Dan the boot" social media campaign, which resulted in someone leaving boots at the location of his dad's funeral.

Mr Andrews said he had no issue with "different views", but pleaded to leave his family out of the debate.

"I'll just say this - having different views to me, that's fine. It's a healthy part of our democratic society. But decency matters too," Mr Andrews said.

"The last time I was in that shed was when I carried my father's coffin out of it, and I think that that is... I won't use the words that my father would use to describe that sort of act."

Mr Andrews said he acknowledged that his policies would cause a rift in public opinion, but that does not mean personal taunts are acceptable.

"That's just... Low. Low. And it has no place, no, no place. Have a different view to me, but leave my family out of it, and particularly the dead members of my family out of it," Mr Andrews said.

"I don't think that's too much to ask. Shame, shame on him, shame."

Mr Andrews' father Bob died in 2014 after a long battle with cancer.
