Three weeks' worth of coronavirus vaccines used in days as south-west Sydney takes up the call to get jabbed

Urgent deliveries of coronavirus vaccines are on the way to south-west Sydney after pharmacies administered weeks' worth of doses in just days.

The call for those in the epicentre of the current outbreak to get vaccinated has been heard by the local community.

However, it means supplies have already been used up at some chemists.

"We had run out of supply by 4'oclock in the afternoon - our supply of 300 doses was meant to last 3 weeks, it lasted just under 4 days," Pharmacist Quinn On told 9News.

"The government is putting the word out there saying, hey go to your pharmacy to get it and they're telling pharmacies to get ready - we're ready! But where's the supply? Where's the vaccines?"

This afternoon the Vaccine Operations Centre said it is making urgent deliveries to pharmacies and GPs in south-west and western Sydney that have run out.

There is 1.3 million AstraZeneca does in a DHL warehouse ready to be shipped out, and another 1.5 million in state and territory storage.

Any pharmacy or GP who requests urgent supplies today should receive them by Monday or Tuesday.

Cumberland Mayor Steve Christou has even offered up community spaces for the state government to use to get more people vaccinated.

"Come in, give us some nurses, give us some jabs, you can have these facilities," he said.

"We're your front line, we're in touch with the community... we can do this."
