Queensland has recorded one new local COVID-19 case, as the state's vaccine effort is again ramped up.

The new case is a young child who is a close contact of a previous infection.

They have been linked to the Sunnybank cluster and were in quarantine during their infectious period.

Queensland Health Minister Yvette D'Ath said the child tested positive on day 14 of their isolation and does not pose a risk to the community.

"What that shows, is that it is so important when people are isolating, they do their full 14 days and do all those tests," Ms D'Ath said.

She said that community pharmacies across the state are now stocking the Moderna vaccine, on top of AstraZeneca and encouraged all eligible residents to come forward to get jabbed.

Queensland has now vaccinated 62.8 per cent of residents with one dose, and 43.9 per cent with two.

A total of 4.5 million doses have now been administered across the state.

More than 9000 tests were conducted in the last day, on top of 22,000 vaccines handed down.

Meanwhile, mask rules have been eased in South-East Queensland, just in time for the Riverfire festival which will be held tonight.

Masks can now be taken off as soon as residents are seated and they are no longer required in classrooms at schools.

The state also kicks off another super-vax weekend today with walk-ins welcomes to all vaccine hubs, which are opened for extended hours.

However, Annastacia Palaszczuk has still refused to commit to a vaccine target that would reopen borders, which has thrown Christmas plans into chaos.
