Drop in COVID-19 cases for most Australian states, no deaths for VIC for first time in months

Victoria has recorded no COVID-19 related deaths for the first time in several months.

It comes as the state recorded 6694 additional COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

This is a slight drop from yesterday's 7847 infections.

There are 215 people in hospital with the virus and 21 people in ICU.

The state's premier, Daniel Andrews has also flagged a change to close contact isolation rules.

Western Australia has seen a drop in COVID-19 cases overnight, with an additional 5626 cases recorded for the state.

South Australia has recorded three COVID-19 related deaths overnight

Two men in their 60's and one man in his 70's who tested positive for the virus have passed away.

It comes as the state records 3168 new cases of the virus in the past 24 hours.

Queensland has recorded 5707 new COVID-19 cases today, a drop from yesterday's 7120 infections.

The state currently has 37167 active cases of the virus, with 18 people in intensive care.

No deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours.

New South Wales today reported another significant drop in COVID-19 cases, while no deaths have been recorded in Victoria.

NSW has recorded 16,813 new cases in the past 24 hours.

This is a drop in case numbers from yesterday's 19,060 infections.
