Australian suburbs with the highest and lowest COVID-19 vaccination rates

New federal government data reveals how Australia's vaccine rollout is proceeding throughout different regions of the country.

The information shows the first and second dose rates for eligible people aged 15 years old and over, in different geographic areas in every state and territory as of August 2.

The data reveals that vaccine rollout is slowest in some of Australia's remotest and also economically disadvantaged regions.

The federal government says it is important to note that eligibility and accessibility for vaccination will vary by area.

For example, regions that have older populations are likely to have higher rates of vaccination than areas with many younger people.

Below is a state-by-state breakdown of the figures.

New South Wales

The state's highest rates are in the Sydney suburbs of North Sydney and Sydney - where 26.9 per cent of residents are fully vaccinated.

The state's lowest figure is the 13 per cent in the NSW's Far West and Orana.

Sydney's south-west, the epicentre of the latest Delta outbreak, has one of the lowest rates of fully vaccinated residents in NSW with 14.6 per cent.

Victoria

Residents in the city of Bendigo have the state's highest rate for full vaccination - at 25.1 per cent.

In north west Melbourne just 15.6 per cent of the community has received both vaccine doses.

Queensland

Brisbane north leads the state for full vaccination with 24.5 per cent, compared with the lowest region - the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday regions - where only 10.2 per cent of people have received both jabs.

Tasmania

The Apple Isle has some of the best figures for full vaccination in Australia. The Launceston and North East region leads on 27 per cent, while the South East has recorded 19.1 per cent.

South Australia

The southern suburbs of Adelaide lead the state with 22.8 per cent of residents fully vaccinated. The city's North community has the state's fewest people with both COVID-19 shots - just 15.4 per cent.

Western Australia

A quarter of people living in inner Perth are fully vaccinated in comparison to only 8.6 per cent in the vast Northern Outback - the lowest figure in Australia.

Northern Territory

Residents of the Top End have some of the highest full vaccination rates in the country with Darwin on 24.1 per cent and the Outback NT on 22.2 per cent.

Australian Capital Territory

The ACT community has 22.7 per cent of residents fully vaccinated.
