Man allowed into Western Australia to see dying mum - but must do two weeks quarantine
A man who landed in Sydney hoping to see his dying mother yesterday will be allowed in to Western Australia.
Ethan Carter was one of the first arrivals from the US when quarantine-free travel returned yesterday in New South Wales and Victoria.
He was hoping to be able to get to Western Australia to see his ailing mother.

"I'm really scared and emotional because I really want to see my mum. The doctor says she doesn't have long," he said.
Only a couple of hundred people can fly directly into Perth each week and do hotel quarantine, and entry from NSW or Victoria is generally not allowed.
Mr Carter yesterday issued a strong a message for Premier Mark McGowan.
"Mark, think of the people suffering mentally to see their family that's also a a health issue," he said.

Mr McGowan said yesterday he would look at Mr Carter's application to cross the border.
"It is rare people are able to come in but sometimes they are based on their individual circumstances, and so I've spoken to my team already today and they'll be examining that if he makes an application," he said.

Overnight, WA's State Emergency Co-ordinator, Police Commissioner Chris Dawson, signed an exemption that would permit Mr Carter to enter the state.
However, Mr Carter will need to wait some time still to see his dying mother, as he will need to undergo 14 days of hotel quarantine and COVID-19 testing.
Mr McGowan yesterday also made a guarded promise to slightly lift the 265 passenger cap on the number of people allowed to fly directly into Perth from overseas in a few weeks when more people are fully vaccinated.
More than 40,000 people have registered with authorities as wanting to get home to Australia.
"We'll start taking 530 people when WA reaches 70 per cent fully vaccinated," he said.
"Today it's just over 60 per cent.
"Yes, there are questions about borders and travel this is about your safety and your loved one's safety."

Acting Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has also asked for Mr McGowan's opening up date.
"I did last time but he lost his marbles with me," he said.
"If you just want to live and stay in WA forever more, I don't think your people will, your people will want to go overseas with us."
