South Australia's new COVID-19 saliva-testing program for quarantine hotel workers won't start until next week, but the premier is standing by the rollout despite next-door Western Australia going into partial lockdown.

Currently, nurses and anybody else working on the quarantine floors of the Pullman Adelaide is tested daily.

But from Monday, all people working in a quarantine hotel will do a saliva test each day, including cooks, cleaners and security guards.

It will happen on top of the existing weekly swab testing program.

By the time it's rolled out, a month will have passed since National Cabinet first agreed to put daily testing in place as soon as possible.

Premier Steven Marshall said the government was "very satisfied" with how SA Health had implemented the program.

"It's being done in a prioritized, progressive way," he said.

The daily testing program will also expand to take in some airport workers later this month.

Meanwhile, the SA hard border with WA has been lifted, allowing people from regional WA back in – and freeing those already here from quarantine.

But they must still be tested on days one, five and 12 from their arrival, and isolate until they return a negative result.
