SA 'on track' to re-open borders on July 20 – for now

South Australia is "still on track" to re-open borders to states other than Victoria on July 20, but this could quickly change.

Premier Stephen Marshall said after the National Cabinet meeting today that new cases in NSW and the ACT needed watching.

"We're going to look very carefully at the results over the coming days to make sure that we don't open those borders too early," he said.

Currently, South Australia's border is all but closed to Victoria, with non-essential travellers not permitted to cross.

Those who are permitted to enter for work requirements are ordered to stay in quarantine when not working, and wear a facemask in public.

However, it is still not mandatory to have a COVID-19 test done on entering the state.

Mr Marshall said this was in line with health advice.

"The clear public health advice we have had is that the most important thing is the mandatory 14-day isolation period," he said.

"There is a clear expectation that people will take a PCR test within 24 hours, and again on the 12th day (of isolation)."

However, testing on arrival did not provide a secure enough net to be the subject of a mandate, he said.

South Australia recorded no new coronavirus cases today.
