RSPCA forced to sack staff as donations plummet
RSPCA South Australia has been forced to sack close to a fifth of its staff amid a financial crisis brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.
Donations to the 150-year-old institution have plummeted in recent months, leaving 20 staff members with jobs.

Staff at both the Stepney headquarters and the Lonsdale shelter in Adelaide are affected as the charity moves toward a new foster-based animal care model.
Chief executive Paul Stevenson told 9News RSPCA's animal care operations were 100 percent funded by community donations, and that like all charities, it is obligated to maximise welfare outcomes at minimal cost.

9News understands all staff will receive their full redundancy entitlements, with more than half of the outgoing staff accepting voluntary redundancies.
Mr Stevenson said the cuts would not hamper the RSPCA's ability to care for the 9000 animals it cares for in South Australia each year.
