What you can and can't do in Greater Brisbane lockdown

Greater Brisbane snaps into a three-day lockdown from 5pm tonight, as Queensland fights to contain a potential breakout of the UK strain of coronavirus.

The lockdown was announced after four new cases of community transmission were detected in the past 24 hours.

Here's what we know so far about the restrictions:

Which areas are affected?

The shutdown covers Greater Brisbane and includes five council areas: Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Morton and Brisbane.

What reasons can I leave my home?

People in Greater Brisbane lockdown zones will only be able to leave their homes for four essential reasons, such as grocery shopping, exercise, essential work and to care for vulnerable people.

Are schools closed?

Schools will close from Tuesday. Schools in the locked down areas will remain open for children of essential workers.

Are face masks compulsory?

In Greater Brisbane, the government is urging people to wear face masks when they are outside their homes. Outside the five local council areas, Queenslanders have been asked to wear masks when they cannot socially distance.

Can I visit hospitals, prisons, aged care facilities?

Aged care, correctional centres, hospitals and disability service providers will close to visitors across the state.

Are shops and cafes closed?

Cafés, pubs & restaurants will be allowed to open only for take-away service.

Can I travel to Queensland from other states and territories?

Queensland has declared Greater Brisbane a hotspot. Western Australia last night announced a "soft" border closure with Queensland, asking people to reconsider travelling to the state over the Easter holidays. So far no other states and territories have announced how travel could be affected, but that is likely to change through the day.

When will the lockdown be lifted?

The restrictions will be reviewed on Wednesday evening.
