Online learning systems are still down as Queensland students enter the second day of the new term.

An estimated 1.8 million students tried to access the Queensland government's new learning from home system on day one, causing it to crash within 30 minutes.

Only 12 per cent of students in the state physically attended school yesterday, with the rest trying to learn from home.

"We know there will be teething problems, so we have established two hotlines on our (Education Queensland) site, one for early childhood education and one for schools," Queensland education Minister Grace Grace said yesterday.

Thousands of new electronic devices have been purchased for home schooling, with print learning material also prepared.

The school restriction measures are expected to be reviewed in five weeks and helplines have been established for those who have questions or need help.
