Shoppers in screaming frenzy as panic buying escalates

Panic shopping turned dark in Perth's south, with video showing people screaming at each other in the vegetable aisle at Spudshed Jankadot as supermarket hysteria hit a new low.

Police were called to bring order to the aisles, keeping frenzied shoppers at bay.

Premier Mark McGowan said people were acting like "jerks, drongos and bloody idiots".

"Obviously having police presence does calm people," he said.

"But secondly if people are being violent or breaking the law, I would expect people to be arrested.

Coles stores across the country today followed the lead of Woolworths and opened early for seniors.

Coles is also cracking down on more products, with shopping limits imposed on long-life and chilled milk, canned tomatoes, and liquid soap.

At Woolworths, the same applies to frozen and canned vegetables, cereals, oils, most cleaning and personal products, long-life milk, and mince.
