Bunnings to close Sydney stores to customers amid lockdown

Bunnings is closing its Greater Sydney stores to retail customers from next week as lockdown continues across the state.

Trade customers will still have access to stores, but retail customers will have to shop online and either have their purchases delivered, or collect them.

This will come into effect from Monday.

"With the new restrictions on retail spanning a large part of Sydney, Bunnings has made the decision to temporarily close all its stores across Greater Sydney to the general public," Bunnings managing director Mike Schneider said.

"This is in support of the government and for the safety and security of team members, customers and the community.

"We know from experience that applying a consistent approach across a metropolitan area is easier for our team to manage and helps reduce travel by residents between LGAs."

Bunnings said it has implemented a number of COVID-19 safety measures since the pandemic began, including adding notifications on its app to remind customers to shop quickly, and upping security to promote compliance.

Bunnings stores in regional NSW will remain open with COVID-safe measures for customers to do essential shopping.

The company's decision came after the NSW government announced Sydney's lockdown would be extended following 644 new COVID-19 cases being recorded across the state.
