Quarantine breachers vow to return to state 'by force'

Two young South Australian women penalised for breaching coronavirus quarantine in Perth have pledged that they'll return – "by force" if necessary.

The 19-year-old and 22-year-old were escorted by police from a Perth hotel and put on a plane back to Adelaide.

"Sorry for what? Did we commit a crime? Did we kill anyone?" one of the women said in an interview with 9News. The pair snuck past hotel security and escaped quarantine two days ago.

"We took the lift down to the basement and then we see the exit," one said.

"Walked all the way to the Perth city train station and then took a taxi."

The cab took them to Coolbellup, where amateur Perth rapper Siri Kidd was hosting a party.

The young women claimed their escape from Perth Novotel was in pursuit of a good night's sleep.

"They woke us up and like, you're under arrest, I'm like, huh?" one said.

The pair were taken to lockup for a night.

One was fined $5000 and the other slapped with a suspended jail sentence.

Back in Adelaide, one told reporters they had "no idea" there were travel restrictions in place. But they say they're planning to come back to Western Australia "in two months time, once coronavirus is over".

"We will enter by force," one said.

But Police Minister Michelle Roberts said she didn't see any prospect of the pair returning.
