Hundreds of workers are returning to the abattoir at the centre of Victoria's largest coronavirus cluster.

Cedar Meats at Brooklyn, in Melbourne's west, is resuming full operations on Thursday with staff who have been medically cleared to work by the state's health department.

A cluster of infected workers and their close contacts, which gradually ballooned to 111 cases, kept the meatworks shut for weeks.

It began reopening with limited staff on May 18 when it switched on its cold storage facility, but Thursday's opening in earnest will pave the way for about 300 staff to get back to work.
