Aldi opening hours to change to give stores more time to stock shelves and clean in wake of coronavirus

Aldi has announced new trading hours to give allow the discount chain extra time to stock shelves and clean stores in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

From next Monday, Aldi stores will open from 8.30am to 7pm, unless other state and local trading restrictions apply.

The supermarket chain also confirmed stores will be shut on Good Friday and Easter Sunday "to give our team members a well-deserved break".

Aldi emphasised there's no threat to the supply of food.

"Our employees, Australian business partners and transport operators have been working incredibly hard to deliver more products than ever into stores each day," the company said in a statement.

"To allow them time to stock shelves and perform a thorough clean of the store for the next day, we have decided to temporarily change our trading hours.

"We want to let you know that there is more than enough food to go around; we just need your patience and support."

While the new hours will take effect from next week, they'll also be reviewed regularly.

"We will continue to re-evaluate these hours on a weekly basis and communicate the decision to either uphold these hours or return to normal trading hours," Aldi said.
