Santa still coming to Adelaide – but the annual pageant will look very different

Santa Claus is still coming to South Australia this year, with 9News revealing the Adelaide Christmas pageant is set to go ahead – with a number of changes.

The pageant is the biggest event of its kind in the southern hemisphere, with 300,000 people lining the streets of Adelaide to watch the spectacle.

It's run since 1933, only stopping for World War II.

And organisers are determined to go ahead this year as well, although in a COVID-safe manner.

9News revealed tonight that Adelaide Oval was being considered as the likely new venue for the event, indicating a switch from a street parade to an arena event.

There will be a smaller crowd than usual, but the Christmas spectacular is set to be broadcast exclusively on Channel Nine for those who can't make it.

Events SA said they were working with SA Health – who in turn told 9News it was a matter being considered by the transition committee.
