Convicted paedophile Peter Hill found living near Perth playground

A convicted paedophile on parole in Perth's south-west has been discovered living less than 100m from a public playground.

Busselton driving instructor Peter Wallace Hill walked free this month after serving just two years of his four-year jail term for the sexual penetration of a 13-year-old boy.

Hill and his lover David Lindner were both jailed for the teenager's abuse.

Lindner had been assaulting the child for months when he invited Hill to take part.

The victim's father pleaded with the Prisoners Review Board not to release his son's abuser, now he's back living in the same town.

"He's a child rapist, he's part of a two-man sex ring, he does the minimum jail and they put him back to swing into our community and everyone just has to get on with it," the father said.

The discovery of Hill's location has generated anger in the local community and sent shockwaves through state parliament.

Opposition spokesman Peter Katsambanis questioned Attorney General John Quigley during question time.

"Can you confirm revelations by Channel Nine News today that Hill may be living in close proximity to a children's playground and what immediate action will you take to protect those vulnerable children?" Mr Katsambanis said.

"I don't know where Hill lives, he's not a dangerous sex offender," Mr Quigley responded.

Hill is not classified formally as a dangerous sex offender, so isn't subject to strict monitoring.

But in its decision the Prisoner Review Board said his parole plan included suitable accommodation and that the conditions would further reduce the risk to the safety of the community.

"He is supposedly not to have any contact with children under 18, yet here he is, he can look out his window and see these children," Mr Katsambanis said.

The Attorney General has asked police to increase surveillance of Hill, who once held senior positions in WA Tourism and Qantas.
