Conroy may bat for online bookies

Retiring senator Stephen Conroy could turn his hand to lobbying for online bookmakers.

It's understood the Victorian Labor senator, who is standing down next week after two decades in parliament, is being considered for a senior role within the revamped Australian Wagering Council.

The council was set up in 2012 as the peak industry body representing the online wagering and sports betting industry, but work is under way to revitalise the organisation and step up the push for a new national regulatory framework for wagering.
