Fire destroys landmark Commercial Hotel in Dalby, Queensland

Fire has destroyed a landmark pub in Queensland, with firefighters working through the night to try and salvage the much-loved establishment.

Emergency services were called to the Commercial Hotel at Dalby at 1.50am, where they found the building engulfed in flames.

Firefighters hosed down neighbouring buildings to protect them from the blaze, as fire ripped through the pub.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Acting Insp Peter McCarron said dozens of firefighters were called in to tackle the blaze.

"There was one person inside, the owner was inside," he said.

"She heard the smoke detectors going off and she evacuated immediately."

Known to locals as Mary's, police are now investigating how the fire was sparked.
