US comedian and star of Netflix comedy Master of None has responded to his nomination for Best Actor in a Television Comedy at the Golden Globes by burying his face behind a fictional how-to book titled “Losing to Jeffrey Tambor With Dignity”.

While the star of Amazon series Transparent Tambor was among the list of names called, Ansari’s tongue-in-cheek prophesising was ultimately foiled when Gael García Bernal took the award for his performance in Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle.

Ansari, who is best known for his work on NBC political comedy Parks and Recreation, appeared most recently in romantic comedy Master of None, a series following Ansari’s dating exploits as aspiring Brooklyn actor Dev.

The show has been praised for exploring issues surrounding diversity.

In November Ansari appeared on CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, criticising the network for its lack of diverse racial representation.
