A woman is fighting for life after being impaled on a mangrove following a fall from her bike on the NSW North Coast today.

Emergency services, including three ambulance crews, rushed to help the woman in Coffs Harbour just after 12pm today.

It's understood she had been cycling along the popular Mangrove Boardwalk when she fell.

The 59-year-old was treated for a serious chest and back injury before being taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a critical condition.

NSW Ambulance Duty Operations Manager Inspector Dean Lassau described the injuries as "shocking".

"It's so important to reassure our patient as much as we can," he said.

"Our crews provided the best possible treatment; we managed to stabilise our patient before transporting her to hospital."
