Coast Guard official charged after allegedly running down neighbour on the Gold Coast

A senior Coast Guard official has been charged after a man was mowed down during a street fight on the Gold Coast. 

Local Commander Ken Stanley is accused of running over neighbour Bruce Pinkerton after an argument broke out over noisy go-karts being driven in their Upper Coomera street. 

CCTV shows a car ploughing into Mr Pinkerton, with another woman forced to jump out of the way. 

"It's just lucky that no-one was killed," Mr Pinkerton told 9NEWS. 

The 57-year-old has since undergone surgery after breaking his leg. 

"After he hit me, I fell over and I hit my head and I don't know whether it was adrenaline or whether the fracture in my leg hadn't completely fractured across yet or whatever, but I jumped up and tried to grab him through the window and tried to drag him out of the car," he said. 

The taxi driver will be unable to work for several months, but hopes to eventually get back behind the wheel. 

His accused attacker refused to comment on the allegations, with his lawyer claiming Mr Stanley didn't deliberately hit his neighbour.

The 65-year-old has been charged with the dangerous operation of motor vehicle and common assault. 

He is due to face a Southport court in August.
