How Queenslanders can make almost $10,000 playing games and reading books

There are new opportunities for Queenslanders to make almost $10,000 while reading books, playing games and watching YouTube.

Torrin Rudder is a new recruit at the Nucleus Network, an organisation that carries out clinical trials on promising new medications and vaccines that have already gone through rigorous pre-clinical testing.

"It's not a bad way to spend the day - chilling out while helping advance medical science," Rudder said.

"I read books, I watch YouTube, I play video games."

Nucleus Network head of operations Riki Badenhorst said doctors and nurses are on site with the recruits.

"We give them great meals, we look after them day and night," she said.

Rudder is part of a trial investigating a more effective treatment for inflammatory bowel disease, which causes debilitating symptoms such as diarrhoea, pain and fatigue.

While participants don't have the disease, the effects of the drug are monitored before further testing is carried out.

"I found out that A) I could be helping people when I'm healthy and fortunate, and B) earning money while doing it," Rudder said.

Payments for short studies can be $1500 or $2000 for a clinical trial but long, in-house studies can be up to $9000.

Healthy participants between the ages of 18 and 55 are still needed for the inflammatory study trial, which involves two nine-day stays plus short follow-ups.

For their efforts, participants will be paid $9490.

"I was a little bit nervous going into it but it's been super nice, friendly staff and really laid back," Rudder said.

While this study is for younger volunteers there are clinical trials for all age groups.

"We're doing a lot of work for vaccine studies in older groups," Badenhorst said.
