Labor general secretary Jamie Clements ordered to stay away from staffer

NSW Labor's most senior official, general secretary Jamie Clements, has agreed to stay away from a junior staffer's home and workplaces but will fight allegations he assaulted her.

Mr Clements, 39, did not appear in Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court today for an apprehended violence order application brought by Stefanie Jones, a former candidate for the state seat of Cronulla who now works for Campbelltown MP Greg Warren.

His lawyer Aron Neilson told the court Ms Jones' claims that Mr Clements had assaulted her at Parliament in June "are denied and will be defended", but in the meantime, his client would agree to orders that force him to stay away from the 27-year-old.

The AVO application has been postponed for two weeks so police can continue to investigate the allegations.

Mr Clements has not been charged with a crime.

"On a no-admission basis, my client will consent to the orders being made," Mr Neilson told the court.

Among orders made by Deputy Chief Magistrate Jane Mottley were that Mr Clements was "not to enter premises where the protected person may from time to time reside or work".

The matter returns to court on August 26.
