Christmas Island 'not in lockdown'

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection has denied the Christmas Island detention centre is in lockdown and that recently transferred sex offenders had been bashed.

"This is simply untrue. None of those individuals transferred have been involved in any violent incident since their arrival on Christmas Island," it said in a statement. "These transfers occurred as part of routine moves between detention facilities."

It also said media reports claiming detainees had been forced to sleep on the floor were untrue.
