Aussie comedian Chris Lilley has apologised after posting a video of himself in blackface on Instagram.
The 2012 video ‘Squashed N---a’, featuring his Angry Boys character S.Mouse, was posted on Friday hours after a Melbourne protest over the death of WA Indigenous boy Elijah Doughty.
Elijah was riding a stolen motorbike when he was chased and run over by the driver of a ute in Kalgoorlie. The protests related to the driver’s acquittal for manslaughter.
Lilley’s post drew sharp criticism online yesterday with many contacting the comedian to voice their disapproval.
Indigenous rapper and actor Adam Briggs told Lilley on Twitter he was "tactless".
Lilley later deleted the video and posted a statement saying the video was "not connected in any way to current news stories" and apologised for "any hurt caused by the misinterpretation".
