Guard killed in daring Chinese jail break

A daring jail break by three Chinese men including a death row inmate, has been captured on the prison's CCTV cameras.

The footage shot at a detention centre in Harbin on Tuesday shows prisoners Wang Damin, Gao Yulun and Li Haiwei walk out of the compound in police uniforms after killing a guard, the South China Morning Post reports.

The chilling footage captures the moment one of the inmates approaches a guard from behind and strangles him to death with the help of his accomplices.

After changing into police uniforms the men calmly walked out of the prison one by one, triggering a manhunt.

Wang, 35, and Li, 29 have since been caught but 50-year-old Gao, who has been sentenced to death, remains on the run.

Wang and Li were charged with assault resulting in death but it is unclear if they have faced trial.
