A Canadian father who was filmed telling his children that his chemotherapy treatment has been successful has been lauded online as "daddy Superman".

A video of Toronto man Mike Smith sharing the news that he is cancer-free with his three children prompted an outpouring of support after it was posted on the Love What Matters Facebook page.

"So as of right now, there’s no cancer in my body," Mr Smith says in the video.

The children immediately embrace him, and can be heard sobbing.

"I told you I wasn’t going anywhere," Mr Smith says.

He was diagnosed with stage three testicular cancer in August last year, and has had multiple surgeries to remove tumours and a cancerous testicle.

His wife Ashley said it had been heartbreaking to see their children "their daddy go from one of the hardest working men they know to a man who could barely walk".

"A lot of people see when patients get the news of no cancer, but we don’t see enough of children getting to hear their dad is going to be OK," she wrote.

The video has been ‘liked’ more than 36,000 times since being posted yesterday.
