A childcare worker in New South Wales' Central West region has been charged with assaulting a four-year-old at a childcare centre.

The 24-year-old woman allegedly forced the boy onto a bed on August 8 at a childcare centre in Kelso, nearly 200 kilometres west of Sydney.

As a result, the child's head struck the edge of the bed and left him with a 2cm laceration.
