Ebola test negative for Melbourne child

A Melbourne child has been cleared of Ebola after testing overnight.

A Health Department spokesman said the child, whose age and gender have not been released, tested negative for the deadly disease.

The parents were given the good news before 6am.

It is not yet known what illness the child has.

The Health Department had originally said the child was only being tested for Ebola as a precaution.
