Crews smash window to rescue child trapped in locked car

A one-year-old child trapped in a locked car in Sydney’s west has been freed by emergency crews following a major rescue operation. 

In a video taken by a bystander, emergency crew members can been seen attempting to use a crowbar to free the child from the white ute parked at Nepean Village in Penrith at 4pm today.

After a few minutes of struggling to pop the lock, the crews smashed a window.

A bystander can be heard saying: “I think the mum’s there. The poor thing must’ve panicked.”

The boy is then pulled from the car through the smashed window and is assessed by a paramedic. 

“He looks so hot. Look at him; he has such a red face,” a bystander says.

Police, Fire & Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance were on scene. 

An NSW Ambulance spokesman said: "The patient was assessed on the scene." 

It is unknown how long the child was locked in the car.
