Cheese pulled from shelves at Coles, IGA over undeclared allergen

An urgent product recall has been issued for a "dairy-free" cheese sold nationally at Coles supermarkets and independent retailers such as IGA.

Although the BioCheese Cheddar Shred is marketed as a non-dairy product, some packets of the product were found to contain milk, Food Standards Australia said.

The plant-based cheese alternative is made with coconut oil and claims to offer a "full-flavoured cheddar that is delicious and versatile".

The recall applies to 200g packets of BioCheese Cheddar Shred with a best before date of 27 August, 2026.

Milk is a common allergen and consumers who have a milk allergy or intolerance have been advised not to eat the cheese.

Any customers who bought the product can return it to the store for a full refund.
