A man has been charged with the murder of a homeless man who died after being knocked out in a roadside brawl in northern NSW.

Hoani Shaune Love suffered serious head injuries after the fight outside a Tweed Heads shopping centre on September 27.

The 48-year-old grandfather died in a Gold Coast hospital three days later.

Last week Mr Love's daughter, Toni Taufale, made a desperate plea for information about her father's killer.

"The loss has affected our family hugely, we can't understand why this has happened and we just want answers as to why he was attacked," she said.

"My dad's life was cut short at such a young age and nobody deserves to lose someone in such a senseless and violent way."

On Monday police arrested a 38-year-old man at a home on Lakes Drive in Tweed Heads West.

He was charged with murder and will appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Tuesday.

Police said Mr Love was well known in the Tweed Heads area and spent time with other homeless men in a nearby park.
