Charges dropped against Sydney jeweller

She claimed she had the evidence against him wrapped in a tissue.

But now the Sydney jeweller accused of indecently assaulting a woman in his store has had the charges against him dropped.

Halim Authman appeared before Parramatta Bail Court earlier this year, charged with one count of indecent assault and another of committing an act of indecency.

The Liverpool jewellery store owner was accused of inappropriately touching the woman, who cannot be named, and then forcing her to touch him while they were in his shop last December 19.

The woman had left the store carrying a tissue which she claimed contained evidence of the alleged assault.

She then handed it in to police, the court heard last month.

But Authman's solicitor said the store's CCTV footage showed the act was consensual and the woman had been involved in an extortion attempt.

She was "threatening (Authman) if he didn't pay her she would go to police", his lawyer told the court earlier this year.

At Liverpool local court this week both counts against Authman were dismissed.

The jeweller was supported by his wife, who is paralysed from the waist down, and his two adult children.
