Channel Nine Telethon raises $12 million for sick kids

From sporting stars to singers and everyday heroes, Queenslanders united last night to raise more than $12 million for the Children's Hospital Foundation during the Channel Nine Telethon.

The final tally of $12,230,565 will help sick children by paying for medical research, vital equipment and patient and family support programs.

The fourth annual Channel Nine Telethon was a huge success, Children's Hospital Foundation CEO Rosie Simpson said.

"Thank you to every Queenslander who opened their heart and their pocket," she said.

"Thank you also to the children and families who shared their stories for the Telethon - their amazing bravery while battling illness and injury was remarkable, and they certainly were the stars of the show."

This year's Telethon was hosted by Sylvia Jeffreys, Pete Stefanovic, Sonia Kruger, David Campbell, Richard Wilkins, Natalia Cooper, Melissa Downes and Andrew Lofthouse and featured performances from Dami Im and Leo Sayer.

It also featured 10-year-old Chinchilla boy Cooper, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2015 and underwent six months of radiation and chemotherapy at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital.

The Channel Nine Telethon will be back next year with an even bigger show, Channel Nine Queensland Managing Director Kylie Blucher said.

"We know the funds raised will change the lives of sick children across Queensland and provide comfort and support for those families who really need it," she said.
