Race gear stolen from national karting championship contender

A national karting championship contender insists two heartless thieves won't slow him down after a robbery with the hallmarks of a Hollywood film.

Security footage shows two men reversing a ute down Mathew Stenner's Moorooka driveway before they attach a trailer with his race gear, and drive off.

The robbery, which happened in the middle of the day, lasted just six minutes, and came days after Mr Stenner nearly caused an upset when he placed second in the first round of the national championships.

"My heart just dropped," Mr Stenner said.

"I'm not going to be able to train because I don't even have a suit to wear, or a helmet to wear."

It's unlikely insurer CommInsure will cover the race gear, valued at over $35,000.

In a further blow, the robbers also stole wife Samantha's hairdressing equipment, so she can't work.

"They're parasites," she said.

"I don't even have a comb, it's out of this world.

"They've taken stuff that means the world to us"

The Stenners are hoping someone will recognise the robbers' ute or know the men involved.

Police are investigating.
