CCTV shows car driven through Melbourne shopping centre in ram raid

A stolen car has been filmed crashing through a shopping centre during a ram raid in Melbourne’s north-east this morning.

CCTV released by Victoria Police shows the silver Nissan Dualis 4WD outside Westfield Plenty Valley on Mcdonalds Road, South Morang, about 4am.

The vehicle is then reversed into the front doors and crashes through the windows of a hairdressing store.

Once inside, the car is driven through the centre aisle of the complex, before stopping and ramming a Tattslotto counter.

“They got to the safe, but couldn’t lift it… it’s a one-tonne safe,” store owner Sam Sleiman told 9NEWS.

The offenders left the centre empty-handed and then dumped and torched the car at Yallambie one hour later, police said.

It is believed three people were in the vehicle at the time of the ram raid.

Damage to the plaza during the incident has been estimated to amount to $40,000.

Investigations are ongoing.
