Hunt continues for men involved in 'confronting' armed burglary

Police are searching for four men who smashed their way into a Melbourne home armed with a rifle, a machete, and a baton.

The group, who wore balaclavas, stormed into the Fraser Street property in Melton South about 4am on April 24, before firing shots, demanding cash, and assaulting three people inside.

It comes as a cameraman covering the violent home invasion was allegedly attacked this morning.

Video captured the moment the cameraman was allegedly kneed in the stomach by a man before the other appeared to punch him in the head.

It's alleged the two men also began throwing rocks at the media before they left the scene.

Detective Superintendent Jason Kelly said the two men were loosely associated with the street but not the address.

Police are investigating the confrontation with media.

It comes as police hunt for those involved in the aggravated burglary, which they say was a "targeted attack".

Those inside the house - two women aged 44 and 67, as well as a 31-year-old man - were allegedly assaulted after they refused the demands of the offenders.

The man sustained "a significant knife wound" to his face and was later transported to hospital for treatment.

The women suffered minor injuries.

After searching the property, the men found a safe and stole a significant quantity of jewellery.

They then fled on foot before stealing a white Volkswagen Polo from the address, which was later found burnt out on the North Shore.

"It's very confronting when offenders force entry to a house. I've got to say, this is a very rare occurrence," Kelly said.

Police say another vehicle, a White Mazda CX-5 with a sticker on the back windscreen, was also later used by the group.

Officers have released CCTV of the Mazda in the hopes a member of the public may recognise it and have information on its current whereabouts.

Investigators are keen to speak to anyone with any knowledge of the incident on April 24 or who may have been in the area with dashcam footage.
