A massive crocodile has been wrangled ashore after devouring livestock from a Northern Territory cattle station.

Police and rangers captured the 4.33m predator amid fears local residents could be in danger.

The owners of a Top End cattle station reported the croc had taken several cows from their property.

Police were accompanied by veteran crocodile catcher Tommy Nichols who laid a trap near the water's edge.

"It was causing a ruckus and was a danger to people in the area," Matt Phillips from the NT Police told the ABC.

Despite putting up a struggle, the beast was eventually captured and sent to a nearby crocodile farm.

A trap has been left near the cattle property after owner's claimed an even large croc still lurks in the water.
