Blanchett almost missed out on collecting Oscar

Cate Blanchett did Australia proud when she won the best actress Oscar but the Blue Jasmine star revealed she almost missed out on collecting the top award.

Blanchett told E! News she lost track of time because she was drinking at the bar with another Oscar-nominated A-lister.

"I was with Julia Roberts at the bar for rather too long and I just got back to my seat in time," Blanchett said in an interview at the Governors Ball.

The actress said it's easy for stars to "lose track of the fact that you're even nominated" during the three-and-half-hour awards ceremony.

"The blessing and the curse of this [award] is that it happens at the arse end of the evening," Blanchett joked.

The two-time Oscar winner was equally candid at a press conference after her win.

An Australian journalist reminded her that she's the country's first actress ever to score two Academy Awards.

"And don't you f---king forget it," she quipped.
