Murder charge after 80-year-old man found dead in his home

A Victorian man has been charged with the murder of an 80-year-old man found dead in his home in Castlemaine, south of Bendigo.

Detectives interviewed the 53-year-old Castlemaine man, who they believed knew the dead man, before charging him with murder on Monday evening.

The older man had been found dead on Wimble Street about 10.45am on Monday, police said.

The accused was remanded in custody to face Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Police would not confirm how the men knew each other.
