Cassie Sainsbury to give tell-all 60 Minutes interview

After months of negotiating with prison officials, 60 Minutes has been granted exclusive access inside El Buen Pastor women's prison in Bogota to speak to alleged drug smuggler Cassie Sainsbury.

In her first ever television interview, this is the first opportunity 22-year-old Sainsbury has had to explain what really happened in the lead up to the moment she was infamously stopped and detained at El Dorado International Airport in Bogota with 5.8 kilograms of cocaine hidden in her luggage.

In a sneak peek clip of next week’s interview, reporter Liam Bartlett is seen inside a cell with Sainsbury, putting to her the unanswered questions that have been speculated across the nation.

“We want to ask you some details of what happened,” he asks.

“We want people in Australia to hear your side of the story.

“Whose idea was it? Whose idea was it to make a quick dollar out of carrying cocaine? How did you get here, who talked you into it?”

The no-holds-barred interview will address every element of Sainsbury’s story: why she did it, why her story has changed and why she has lied.

The 60 Minutes exclusive interview is set to air on September 24 at 8.30pm on Channel 9.
