Casey Donovan targeted in ‘blackmail attempt’
A 33-year-old man has been charged over an alleged blackmail attempt on singer Casey Donovan.
Detectives from Bankstown in Sydney's southwest charged the man with blackmail and with using a carriage service to menace after arresting him yesterday.
A Current Affair has been told the offences allegedly involve a threatening text message.
It is understood the charged man was a friend of Donovan's, who reported the message to police.
He has been freed on bail and will front Blacktown Local Court in two weeks.
After winning Australian Idol in two thousand and four, at the age of 16, Donovan released a number of hit singles and starred in two stage musicals.
In recent years the 29-year-old has experienced a career resurgence.
Last year she was the face of the Coles Supermarket "Down Down" advertising campaign, and has been on a public weight-loss campaign.
