Carney denies involvement in fight

Cronulla Sharks player Todd Carney denies he was involved in a fight outside a takeaway store in Sydney's south.

Police say a fight broke out between a number of men just after 7.30pm (AEDT) on Sunday on The Kingsway in Cronulla.

Carney was with friends outside McDonald's when a passerby yelled from a car window "Go Sharkies", according to Macquarie Radio.

A 28-year-old man - not Carney - then allegedly punched two men, aged 18 and 19, in the face.

One teenager lost a tooth and had swollen lips, the other had swelling to his cheek and eye area, and both required medical attention, Inspector Mark Walker told Fairfax Media.

Police later arrested a 28-year-old man and charged him with two counts of assault.

He will attend Sutherland Local Court next month.

The star NRL player posted a message on the social media network Twitter on Sunday night.

"Hello fans and friends just spoke with the cops I was not involved in no fight tonight. More details to come tomorrow," he tweeted.
